Triangle Sale Graduate Versacee Takes Home Royal Crown Championship
Rapid City, SD — In only the third show of his career, four-year-old stallion Versacee (A Shiner Named Sioux x CHQH Von Remolena, by Von Remedy) captured the Championship title in the 6 & Under Intermediate and the Reserve Championship in the Intermediate at the 2025 Royal Crown Rope Horse Futurity in Rapid City. A graduate of Triangle Horse Sales, Versacee was purchased by Jeremy Barwick from TJ Good and has since been developed under the hand of Cole Davison.
Intermediate Heading Reserve Champion Versacee opened the futurity with a 153.36 in Round 1, placing third and setting himself up well in the average. He followed with a 154.83 in Round 2 to win the round, then stayed sharp in Round 3 with a 155.94 to finish second.
A strong performance in the short round, despite a barrier penalty, secured the Reserve Championship in the Intermediate Heading Average on four head with a total of 612.33. The finish paid $7,920 to the owner, $1,134 to the stallion, and $486 to breeder Spencer Griffiths.
6 & Under Intermediate Champion When the 6 & Under division came around, Versacee proved he could shift into another gear. His 157.23 in the short round was the second-highest score of the day, winning the short round and securing the Average Championship with 621.36 on four head. That title added $5,940 to his earnings.
“This is only this horse’s third futurity appearance,” Davison said. “He marked a 233.22 at the Old West Rope Horse Futurity to place third in the first round, and he’s only gotten stronger from there. This horse has a style and athleticism that really shows through—he’s sure enough a show horse and has really come a long way in the past six months.” The four-year-old stallion, fondly referred to as “Gio,” is quickly coming into his own. “To see this horse come out and hold his own against horses much more seasoned and older than him shows that he is a true contender in the arena.”
With $16,980 in total earnings from Rapid City alone, Versacee has already established himself as a serious contender in the rope horse futurity scene. “The rope horse futurity industry is taking off to new levels, and it’s great to see a horse like Versacee — who came out of the Triangle Sale — go on to win big on this kind of stage,” said Jeremy Barwick, “It shows the kind of quality that comes out of the Triangle Sale – graduates that are going on to win big and make an impact out there in the show arena.”
