The 46th Triangle Spring Sale, held May 2 at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, concluded with strong and consistent demand for quality horses, posting a 75% sold rate and a Top 20 average of $25,510.
Triangle Horse Sales once again brought together buyers and consignors from across the country for a market that reflected continued confidence in well-bred, versatile horses with proven potential across multiple disciplines.
Topping the sale at $54,000 was Tagish, a 2022 red roan stallion consigned by Tate Kirchenschlager, agent for Kirk Smith, and purchased by Chance David of Joaquin, Texas. The son of Hashtags and out of Tuff Lil Freckles, by Woody Be Tuff, had been started in cutting training before transitioning smoothly into the roping arena under Kirchenschlager’s program.
“Our livelihood is built around the cattle we raise, so being mounted well is an essential part of what we do every day. We’re always thinking in terms of quality when it comes to our ranch horses because we understand what it takes for one to truly go and do the job well. Horses like that are among the greatest assets to a ranch,” says Lucinda David.
“We knew Tagish was coming from a respected program with people who understand good horses and the responsibility that comes with them. They know what it means to ride a good one and to be good stewards of the horse, and we’re very thankful for the opportunity to own a horse like him.”
Hot Box, a 2022 gelding consigned by Wilson McCray, agent for OK Partners, brought $30,000 from John Schaefer of Santa Rosa, California. Sired by Cool N Hot and out of Heart Shaped Box, by Smart Boons, the gelding is already a money-earner in the cow horse arena and has spent nearly three years in training with McCray Performance Horses.
Another $30,000 seller was SDP High Roller, a 2023 mare consigned by Billy Crenshaw and purchased by Cornelius Banman of Dalhart, Texas. The mare, bred to Boonified, is by legendary sire High Brow Cat, whose offspring have surpassed $99 million in earnings, and out of Cha Ching And Change, an earner of more than $125,000 with multiple money-earners already on the ground.
Also bringing $30,000 was Smooth As A Raisin, a 2023 gelding consigned by Allen Hershberger and sold to Terry Tietjen of Bellevue, Iowa. The gelding is by Reyzin The Cash and out of Smooth Alana, by Smooth As A Cat. He sold in training with Ivan Raber, whose program is recognized for developing horses with the foundation and versatility to excel in multiple directions.
The sale once again showcased the depth and diversity that have defined Triangle Horse Sales for more than four decades, drawing buyers looking for prospects suited for the cutting pen, cow horse arena, rope horse futurities, and beyond.
With another successful spring edition in the books, Triangle Horse Sales now turns its attention toward its Fall Sale, set for October 30-31 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
