Billie Jack Saebens and One Time Pick made their mark in Buckeye, Arizona, at the 2025 Royal Crown 4 & Under Heading Futurity—winning the title and $13,150 in the gelding’s very first competition run.
The victory carried added significance as One Time Pick is a graduate of the Triangle Horse Sale. Bred by Clay Logan, the gelding is by One Time Honor and out of Picks Petie. He was acquired through the Triangle Horse Sale, initially started by Ty Benson, and later transitioned into Saebens’ training program.
Saebens said he knew early on that One Time Pick had the kind of mind and athleticism to excel. “He’s good-minded, wants to do everything right, and for his first time being shown, he handled the pressure like he’d been doing it for years,” Saebens said.
The pair stopped the clock with consistent, sharp runs across the rounds, ultimately securing the aggregate win in the 4 & Under Heading. In just his first year of competition, One Time Pick has already earned $17,850, highlighted by the $13,150 win in the 4-Year-Old Heading Futurity at the Royal Crown in Buckeye, Arizona. His early record also includes $3,200 from the ARHFA Oil Can Classic Pre-Futurity and $1,500 from the Royal Crown in Guthrie, Oklahoma—solidifying his status as a young horse to watch in the heading pen.
